Today’s review features the new single We Are Everyone by the San Francisco, CA (USA), band Adeya. The band describes itself as “Fueled by an intense commitment to creating soul stirring, thought-provoking music, ADEYA transcends genres and style. Their synergistic approach to songwriting brings new and exciting soundscapes to the forefront while celebrating the timeless musical icons of the past. ADEYA is a bold and innovative band that creates radio friendly music for everyone who loves classic alternative rock with a modern twist.”
The band members in Adeya are:
Ron Moe – Lead vocals and acoustic guitar
Marlon Simpson – Electric guitar, acoustic guitar and back up vocals
Mark Russell – Bass guitar and back up vocals
Samuel Terrell – Drums
Ron and Marlon are mainstays of the Bay Area music scene, having performed in bands that have played every major club in the Bay Area, several arena sized venues, lots of California music festivals, and have opened for acts like Green Day, Sammy Hagar, and Tracy Chapman. They reunited in 2023 to form this new band, Adeya and to begin writing the songs for their new album, We Are Everyone. The new single is the title cut.
So let’s have a listen …
My first impression upon listening to this song is that the verses are too straightforward in the delivery of the vocals, but the chorus is catchy. I appreciate that the song tries to sell a story or theme of We Are Everyone. Not sure what we are uniting about, though. The guitars are playing soft arpeggios under the verses, but I keep expecting to hear a heavier guitar sound enter the song somewhere, in the verses, particularly in the chorus.
But it never happens, which is a shame. I appreciate the rhythmic and vocal break that happens at 1:50 into the song, it’s nice to change things up. The background vocals in the chorus are nicely done. And the song sounds well-produced, no points deduction for production. After the break comes the third and final chorus. Again, while I find the chorus catchy, I’m left to ponder what We Are Everyone are fighting against? or tasked to do?
I would definitely rewrite the verse lyrics, melody line, and chord arrangement, and include heavier-sounding guitars in the song, to give the song more purpose and to give fans a reason to unite around the chorus. When I say heavier guitar sounds, I mean more like STP or Soundgarden.
As it stands now, the track reminds me more of the band Yes, which I’m not sure is what the band was shooting for. The verses are more like a chant that lacks interesting melody and just hits as a little lame. The one saving grace of this song is the choruses, which have a nice melody and arrangement underneath. It is a nice sing-along chorus.
SCORE/Good: If you like songs by the band Yes, this San Francisco band Adela’s new single We Are Everyone is perfect for your pallet. With nice performances and production, and a chorus that is truly catchy, the band delivers a heartfelt song that will intrigue your ears.
Much love, Beth
