Aditi Babel - Parallel Lines (Single Review)
Aditi Babel - Parallel Lines (Single Review)

London-based pop artist Aditi Babel is slowly but surely making a name for herself. With 40,000 Spotify streams currently and reaching the semi-finals at the prestigious International Songwriting Competition (Nashville) with her debut single ‘Superstitions,’ you can expect great things from this artist.

Known for her strong lyricism and intimate compositions, with the release of her latest single, “Parallel Lines,” Babel has once more released something worthy of note. Upon hitting play, you’ll get a slow-burning backbeat and some keys. The vibe is very mellow, and the highlight of this track happens to be Babel’s beautiful vocals, which softly narrate a breakup, where two exes navigate a life ‘parallel’ to each other.

“Now the dust is settling/Back then I’d follow you to the end/Somewhere I lost myself” sings Babel. We see here a relationship already ending. Babel mourns the end of this relationship, but the next few lines show that there is light at the end of the tunnel: “Isn’t life so beautiful/How we wax and wane and grow/I’m so glad/I felt so sad/No I can appreciate/How it feels to love again.”

Mid-track, Babel bids farewell to a long-lost love but with no regrets. She softly coos, “If I were given the chance/To play the whole thing back/No I know I wouldn’t rewind.” She knows that the relationship has ended and there is no looking back. This is the final goodbye.

Babel’s vocals throughout this track are very sweet. She can shift from sad to hopeful, and it is this emotional fluctuation that makes this piece work. The synthetic strings underpinning the track also add a layered dimension to the overall emotionality.

Review To Earn

“Parallel Lines” is an extremely catchy pop ballad about a breakup, and it follows through with this theme very well. The production and mixing are also well-balanced. It comes across as being polished without sounding over-produced. It felt just right for my ears.

“We’re moving on/On parallel lines/Parallel Lines/Parallel Lines/Farewell, goodbye.” With these final lines, we feel there is closure to what must have been a great love. Babel reflects on the ending of a relationship with emotional maturity and finesse.

SCORE/Excellent: What stood out to me in this release are Babel’s vocals, which are very sweet-sounding and charming. She sings with feeling throughout this track. The other thing that stood out to me is the poignant lyrics that paint a picture of a breakup aptly. Babel uses broad strokes to depict a broken relationship, and we get this in snapshots of a life moving on, but at the same time moving in tandem with an ex, though apart. The moving comparisons and evocative imagery drew me in immediately. “Parallel Lines” feels radio-ready, and Aditi Babel’s gorgeous vocals and contemplative lyrics only clinches this.
