Today’s review features Aetherion and their new EP “The Golden Knight.”
Aetherion is a symphonic Power Metal band formed in 2024 by Italian guitarist Mauro Signorelli, aka “Akkin”, session man and musician. This multi-country international band includes keyboardist Antonio Costa, Italian-Finnish singer Paolo Rubini, German bassist Marcus, and Spanish drummer William.
Aetherion takes its inspiration from bands such as Helloween, Rhapsody, Labirynth, Blind Guardian, and from the whole Power Metal genre. They have previously released their first full length abum, “MAJESTY OF THE WORLD,” containing 8 tracks with the first single “Halloween Night,” which we previously reviewed here.
So let’s have a listen …
The Golden Knight. OMG, the speed riffage is incredibly fast and on time in this song. It’s really impressive. As is the drumming. And the singer’s voice seems perfectly suited for this Power Metal genre. I can appreciate the mystical lyrics of tales from another world. I think this is a very well-constructed song, songwriting-wise – every change adds something interesting to the song. The guitar solo is quite impressive with all the flourishes and arpeggios. I like how the song then drops out except for the vocals. Nice touch. Then the song ends over the speed riffage.
Aries. Another powerful opening. The song then drops off into a slower vocal over sparse instrumentation, then the whole band comes in with more power riffage. Again, the speed and precision of the guitars is impressive. As is the vocalist’s range and phrasing. I’m finding all the changes in the song keep building the momentum, driving the song forward. The song then has another vocal-only drop-out and then the full band rejoins. This is really an impressive piece of work. Loving the guitar solo, not quite as impressive as the solo in the previous song, but still, where it needs to be. The drumming is equally impressive. The fade out at the end seems very abrupt, my only real criticism of the song structure.
Under the Wings of Pegasus. This song is a ballad with an acoustic guitar driving the rhythm. I really like the lyrics in this song. And the addition of strings to build anticipation. The vocalist does an outstanding job. I’m loving the strings in this song against the acoustic guitar. Not hearing any drums.
Overall, an impressive piece of work by Aetherion. 3 very nice Power Metal tunes. This EP should make waves in the metal world.
SCORE/Excellent: Aetherion drops a bombshell of an EP with The Golden Knight. Very impressive, fast, on-time guitar and drum rhythm. And the vocalist nails the vocals for this Power Metal genre. This EP is definitely worth a few listens and should make waves in the metal world. Much love, Beth
