Atum Ah Nun Re – Enchantress (Single Review)

The ‘Enchantress’ is a spoken word and soulful song by Asar Re and Hati Imiut Atum.

The instrumentation gives out a drumming feel that’s subtle, the kicks coming at spaced out intervals. This is a settled rather than dynamic arrangement.

Vocally, we have two types of delivery. One’s by a male artist, and the other by a female muso.

The male artist does the spoken word narration. You have him talking about an enchantress who is said to possess inside of her the spirit and love ‘to express the light for us’. 

The song plays out this way, the male narrator coming in, and then the female singer taking over with the soulful singing, the cycle continuing. 

This is a chilled song, with the poetic narrator sounding like ​Royal Kent. Although the narration is dry, it has its own soulful, if not melodic, parts. 

SCORE/Good: Poetic music dies more or less on lyrical clarity. The male narrator here is almost flawless; it’s the female vocalist who seems to be less clear. But here’s a song that delivers on two fronts: you get some poetic stuff and then soulful singing. It’s a double delight, if you will.
