Avery Tompkins Too Much Fun (Single Review)
Avery Tompkins Too Much Fun (Single Review)

Today’s review features Avery Tompkins and her new single, “Too Much Fun.” It is her sixth release, following previous titles such as “Baggage,” “Unfortunate Life,” “One More Time,” “Good Liar,” and “My Future Was You.”

Tompkins is an up-and-coming singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, CA, USA. Her musical influences are Gracie Adams and Lizzy McAlpine, among others. Avery is a singer-songwriter known for heartfelt lyrics that connect personally with listeners, working across Indie Folk, Pop, Acoustic Pop, Electronic Pop, and Pop Country.

Released on July 30, 2026, “Too Much Fun” is a breakup anthem set within a moody, modern indie-pop framework, written for anyone who’s waited by the phone for someone too busy having a good time without them. It’s got attitude, honesty, and a chorus made for singing along, perfect for playlists about moving on and owning your worth.

Andrew Wesley Carter’s production plays an important supporting role throughout. A highly experienced producer, engineer, and mixer at Echo Music Studio, Carter is also a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, so his approach starts with being a musician and artist himself.

So let’s have a listen …

I previously reviewed her prior single, “My Future Was You,” and was immediately taken by her unique guitar playing and killer pop voice. You can read that “outstanding” review here.

The new song starts with a steady acoustic guitar strumming; soon Tompkins enters the song singing what I would classify as a country-pop tune, which could be indie folk. Some short reverb-heavy backing vocals. Avery launches into the verse with her unique voice that’s perfect for this kind of song. Lots of lyrics about the contradictory lives people lead.

I like the chorus line “I’m giving up, on chasing boys, they fill up my head, with the same damn noise.” The arrangement is fairly simple – verse, chorus, verse, chorus, an altered version of the verse as a bridge, chorus. The last chorus is just Avery with her guitar. A nice, simple, clean way to end this killer country-pop ballad.

Score/Excellent: Avery Tompkins’ new single “Too Much Fun” is a brilliant and clever country-pop / indie folk tune about the contradictions in life and love, a game she is opting out of. This new single deserves some space in your favorites playlist. She’s awesome. Much love, Beth
