Benny The Butcher – Everybody Can’t Go Album Review (AOTM January)

While Benny The Butcher maintained a lower profile in 2023 with fewer releases, his stature as one of today’s most impactful rappers remains. The quieter year seemingly allowed him to recharge and conceptualize, culminating in ‘Everybody Can’t Go’—an album that undoubtedly stands as one of his strongest works.

Teaming up with producers The Alchemist and Hit-Boy proved to be a winning formula, hitting the bullseye with beats that, while not revolutionary, exude strength and rhythm, compelling listeners to bounce along. The album boasts an array of tracks featuring brilliant guest MCs like Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Stove God Cooks, and Armani Caesar, among many others.

Yet, ‘Everybody Can’t Go’ isn’t merely predictable. Noteworthy moments include Benny The Butcher’s occasional venture into singing on ‘Big Dog,’ the sudden beat changes in ‘TMVTL,’ and the slightly distorted bass in ‘How To Rap.’ Flow is the lifeblood of rap, and this album maintains a catchy, engaging rhythm from start to finish. While predominantly leaning towards a darker hardcore hip-hop vibe, there’s a touch of variation, such as the title track carrying a lighter boom bap feeling.

What stands out is the consistent ability of veteran artists like Benny The Butcher and The Alchemist to produce compelling music year after year, release after release. Lyrically, the album excels, whether it’s Benny himself or the featured MCs, keeping listeners making the classic stank face throughout the journey. ‘Everybody Can’t Go’ is a testament to the enduring prowess of these veterans in the rap game.
