Up for review is ‘GODDESS’, a single by BRAY SMIZZI, featuring DMARSHALL. I have reviewed this song for my own music platform, The Musician – so you can say this is my second take of ‘GODDESS’. While the song has been out for quite some time now, what’s new is that it is accompanied by a music video. The video starts with the artists seated in different rooms, talking about a pending video shoot, with the other artist busy on his phone, preoccupied with Facebook.
The song has a premium beat and chilled vocalization – a great combination, really. The beat is the kind that screams of cool and swagger – an urbane beat, if you will.
The song starts with the vocals of BRAY SMIZZI. The ones by DMARSHALL only come later on. Lyrically, it’s two guys coming up on the mic to talk about their women. Just as in rap and poetry, the two artists use figurative language in their lyrics.
The women are said to be goddesses here, and repeated over and over in the song is the phrase, ‘She is a goddess’. Apart from the figurative language, the lyrics also provoke some imagery. For BRAY SMIZZI, her goddess is flyer than any bird. You can’t help but see in your mind a bird flying in the sky! But if the imagery is provincial, DMARSHALL brings it to the city – he likening his woman to a porn star.
This is a song to put on if you want to appreciate your woman; and if you’re a woman, this is a song with friendly vibes.
SCORE/Good: It’s a song with a lovely beat and vocals. Lyrically, I think the song is average. In other words, this is a decent song, and it doesn’t ascend to greater heights.
