Today’s review features the new single “Hold Me Through the End” by recording artist bsdvs23.
bsdvs23 is an indie singer-songwriter known for emotionally grounded, narrative-driven music rooted in realism, restraint, and presence. His music documents lived experiences, choosing to capture “the quiet weight of decisions, relationships, growth, and self-trust.” The artist hopes that his music will offer you space for reflection, clarity, and forward motion.
So let’s have a listen …
The song starts with the vocals over a nice single-note guitar riff. The singer’s voice reminds me of some of the boy bands I’ve heard over the years. Seems to have a touch of auto-tune added, which provides a sparkly sheen to the mix. Eventually, the bass and drums come in, and the vocals gain intensity, then they fall away in the pre-chorus. They re-enter the chorus, and the singer starts hitting some high notes, nice falsetto.
The second verse vocals seem to pick up the pace, with the same laid-back pre-chorus lift, into the second chorus, full band, with plenty of high falsetto notes. Sharp edit into the 3rd verse/pre-chorus. Then we’re into the final chorus. The male singer has a really nice voice. Nice acappella ending to the song. I really like the lyrics to this song – very heartfelt and tell a nice love story.
The song seems perfectly positioned for the pop/radio industry. If you like singers like John Mayer doing chill, laid-back songs, this may be your fit. A trusted music critic friend and venue owner recently told me that their criteria for loving a song compels you to hit repeat and listen again, over and over. This is one of those songs that, after 5 listens, still rocks!
SCORE/Excellent: bsdvs23 delivers a really nice pop tune with big, airy vocals and the swagger you would expect. The new single “Hold Me Through the End” is perfectly positioned to receive massive commercial radio play. Well done! Much love, Beth
