In the realm of emerging talents, Carter James undeniably shines as a rising star. His third and final installment in the independent EP trilogy takes you on an interstellar journey that can only be described as “otherworldly.”

What’s undeniably remarkable is that each track on this record was conceived within the confines of his very own bedroom, a testament to his exceptional synthesis and production skills. In his own words, he aspired to strike a harmonious balance between live instrumentation and digital world-building, all while delivering a profound social message wrapped in an aesthetically pleasing package.

The lead single, “Moon Shoes,” not only serves as the flagship of this project but also happens to be my personal favourite. It bears a resemblance to tracks from Owl City’s “Ocean Eyes” album, yet it exudes a more refined and mature sonic character (“The Algorithm” evokes a similar feel). However, despite it being my personal favourite, I would recommend exploring the intricacies of Carter James’ innovative sound with “Can’t Help Myself.”

“Can’t Help Myself” radiates a mellower sonic quality, gradually building and evolving into an eclectic, supersonic epic around the 3-minute and 56-second mark; this is a testament to his keen ear for sound.

Here is my rating of each song on a scale of 1-10:

“Skateboard” – 5

“Iaika” – 6

“Moon Shoes” – 8

“Can’t Help Myself” – 8

“The Algorithm” – 7

“Space Pirate” – 6

Rating/Good – Carter is an artist on the brink of greatness. As he refines his craft and pushes the boundaries of musical expression, we can eagerly anticipate more captivating and transformative musical experiences from this rising star.
