Dashade Cosmic King Kongatun (Single Review)
Dashade Cosmic King Kongatun (Single Review)

‘Cosmic King Kongatun’ is the new single by the rap artistDashade. In their artist info, Dashade writes that while it’s said that humans come from apes, that’s not entirely true, according to him. He writes that he doesn’t have the ape antigen in his blood.

It’s, however, kinda strange that a person who debunks the ape story would have a song where they rap, ‘I’m the King Kong gorilla’. But he’s also a cosmic gorilla, we hear.

Not only is he that, but, if that’s not also strange, he says he’s coming after King Kong. This becomes a case of King Kong coming after King Kong.

The song’s low-key instrumentation includes a pulsating kick. Going for less than two minutes, the song is quite dynamic: you have what appears to be gorilla sounds, and you also have what you might call a giddy laugh. It’s infectious, and you might find yourself wanting to laugh along.

When she smells pretty, we have Dashade rapping that he’s gonna be nice, but when you cross him twice, he’s gonna turn into something else. With this threat and earlier laughter, the song mixes humor and seriousness.

Lyrically, Dashade is adept at rhyming.

SCORE/Good:  The lyrical persona wants to be taken seriously, but the production includes laughter, so the listener is torn on how to judge the song: is it a gangsta song or is it a comic song. Perhaps the title should have been ‘Comic King Kongatun’. However jarring the juxtaposition of seriousness and the comical, we have to admit that the song doesn’t give us an easy answer. For that, we can say Dashade has given us an enigmatic song. It sounds like a fascinating wish to listen to more of his music.
