Fingret’s ‘We Touched The Sky’ follows his debut album ‘You’ll Always Be Human To Me’, which was released earlier this year. Fingret states that “The song reflects my own personal feelings about the importance of protecting nature, and explores the idea that trees may feel, remember and grieve in ways we’re yet to understand. It’s a journey of connection, loss, and the unseen emotional life of the living world.”

Fingret’s vocals begin lightly, over an initially deep and gentle melody to match. A plethora of instruments introduce themselves to the track to solidify Fingret’s claim to “progressive and psychadelic rock,” as the music swells into a beautiful symphony of sound. ‘We Touched The Sky’s lyricism portrays clearly the story that Fingret wanted to tell. With lines such as “Can’t look around, but I feel the ground where you stood by me,” and “We were so free in the summer breeze,” natural imagery becomes impossible to overlook. There is a genuinely caring feel to his tone as the chorus sings that “You and I, we’ll never touch the sky,” repeating it three times before entering verse once more.

There is a familiarity to the song. I found myself to be thoroughly reminded of Pink Floyds ‘Breathe (In The Air)’ in both vocal and instrumental tone, a factor that ties in Fingret’s aim to “capture the full spectrum of human feeling and imagination” through the use of his music, “crafting soundscapes that resonate deeply and universally.”

SCORE/ Excellent – ‘We Touched The Sky’ stands as a powerful and emotionally charged continuation of Fingret’s artistic journey. It not only reinforces his dedication to blending introspection with environmental awareness, but also showcases his ability to weave complex sonic textures into something deeply human. The tracks progression, from its gentle opening to its soaring and layered climax, mirrors the emotional depth of its themes, inviting listeners to reflect on their own connection to nature and memory. By channelling the atmospheric richness of classic progressive rock while maintaining a voice uniquely his own, Fingret proves that his music is as thoughtful as it is immersive. ‘We Touched The Sky’ is not merely a song to be heard, but one to be felt. It stands as an evocative reminder of the beauty and fragility of our planet.
