“Some Friends” is the brainchild of Frank Fathom (Benjamin F Sullivan), marking his debut single. It signifies a three-year-long journey of both internal and external processes that have culminated in his readiness to share his music with the world.
The song was penned by Ben and his close friend, his college roommate, Jaman Heslop, shortly before they had to part ways due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was crafted during a time when Ben delved deep into the nature of his friendships and the core of genuine companionship.
âOddly, the chorus has evolved into a letter to each other. We never expected the lyrics we were working on to foreshadow our sudden (and involuntary) separation,” Ben remarks.
âSome Friendsâ is a delicate tune; sonically, it bears a resemblance to a classic singer-songwriter tune, and Iâm all for it. I love the persistent, deep, four-on-the-floor kick that is predominant throughout the song.
Rating/Good – “Some Friends” not only marks the promising debut of Frank Fathom as a musician but also serves as a poignant reflection on the intricacies of friendship and separation.
