We present to you “Take the Darkmess On” by Jim Asselin! from the In Your Time Album.
Jim finds inspiration for his songwriting in the various experiences and moments of life. He believes that life itself provides him with material for his songs, whether it’s moments of dysfunction, blessings, victories, or failures. He particularly draws inspiration from his life in Northern California, where family, faith, and culture have played a significant role. He mentions that his songwriting process involves composing ideas on napkins and screens, and sometimes even singing in the shower.
Jim’s songwriting has received recognition, with Phil Beck, the Executive Director of NACAS, praising his strong talent and rising to the top in his field.
His songs and compilations resonate with different seasons of life, and his new album, “In Your Time,” is described as having a simpler style with themes of hope, anger, anticipation, and joy. Some of the songs on this album are inspired by Jim’s experiences as a Police Chaplain, where he witnesses life on the streets.
Despite his songs playing on the airwaves, Jim finds the most meaningful moments in his songwriting when he’s on his porch, writing songs for weddings, funerals, or directly for loved ones. He believes that these moments capture the real essence of life and its emotions.
Jim is currently working on his upcoming album, “In Your Time,” which continues to explore themes of hope, anger, anticipation, and joy, inspired by his experiences as a Police Chaplain.
