After releasing an impressive seventeen mixtapes in 2026 alone, K2 Cocky returns with his second studio album, Not of This World 2. With such a prolific output, there is clearly no shortage of ambition or motivation behind the project. However, while the album demonstrates a consistent ability to select and construct interesting instrumentals, the songwriting, vocal delivery and overall level of refinement often prevent it from reaching its full potential. There are glimpses throughout Not of This World 2 of an artist who could create genuinely catchy and enjoyable music, but much of the album feels underdeveloped, as though the ideas have been released before they have had the chance to be fully refined.
The album opens with a synth-heavy and somewhat ominous sound that immediately establishes the futuristic atmosphere suggested by the title. The production is one of the stronger aspects of the project, with the beat creating an interesting foundation for the vocals. Unfortunately, the vocal performance does not always match the quality of the instrumental. There are moments where the delivery sounds slightly off-key, while the rap itself lacks some of the confidence and precision needed to make the track truly memorable. The lyrics are also extremely simple, and while simplicity can work effectively in hip-hop when combined with strong delivery or an infectious hook, there is not quite enough personality here to compensate. With stronger writing and more polished vocals, the opening could have been significantly catchier.
As the album progresses, there are noticeable improvements in certain areas. Some of the faster-paced material suits K2 Cocky’s voice much better, allowing him to adopt a more natural rap delivery that feels closer to speaking rather than attempting more melodic vocals. This approach creates some of the catchiest moments on the album. The production also continues to be a consistent strength, particularly when the beats are allowed to build and fall naturally. There is a good sense of movement within several of the instrumentals, which helps maintain momentum even when the vocal performance is less convincing.
The higher-pitched and more energetic production found elsewhere on the album also provides some of its more enjoyable moments. Repeated phrases can become surprisingly catchy, particularly when paired with a memorable instrumental. However, the same issue with vocal refinement continues to appear. The performances are often more tolerable than on some of the weaker tracks, but they still feel as though they need additional fine-tuning. Pitch, tone and overall confidence could all be improved, and a more polished recording process would help the vocals sit more naturally within the instrumental rather than feeling separate from it.
The slower material is less successful. K2 Cocky’s voice does not always seem suited to the more restrained pace, and the lack of vocal polish becomes even more noticeable when the production is less energetic. Although the mixing and production remain relatively strong, a simple and catchy beat cannot entirely carry a track when the vocal performance does not feel comfortable or convincing. This highlights one of the album’s biggest issues, which is that the instrumentals often feel more complete than the performances placed over them.
There are also moments where the project begins to feel repetitive. Many of the songs share a similar structure and approach, but the similarities do not always create a strong sense of cohesion. Instead, there is a feeling that the album needs greater variation to keep the listener engaged. Cohesion is important, but each song should still bring something different to the overall experience. On Not of This World 2, several tracks blend together because they rely on similar themes, vocal approaches and songwriting techniques without enough development to distinguish them.
The lyrical content is another area that could benefit from greater attention. Much of the album focuses on superficial themes surrounding money, drugs and personal gain. These subjects are common within hip-hop and can certainly be explored effectively, but here they often feel too simple and underdeveloped to leave a lasting impression. The writing sometimes reaches a point where its simplicity becomes a weakness, with certain lines lacking the creativity or personality needed to make them memorable. More detailed storytelling, stronger wordplay or personal experiences would give the project greater depth.
This becomes particularly noticeable on some of the weaker songs, where the production and vocal performance seem to be competing against one another. At times, the vocals are mixed so prominently that the instrumental becomes difficult to appreciate, despite the beat itself being well made. Even when the rap remains technically on beat, that alone is not enough to create an engaging performance. Timing is important, but so are tone, delivery, personality and emotional connection.
There are, however, clear highlights that suggest K2 Cocky is capable of finding a stronger direction. The more rap-focused tracks tend to work best because they suit his voice and allow him to sound more natural. When the delivery is closer to spoken rap, rather than attempting melodic vocals that stretch beyond his current strengths, the performances become noticeably more convincing. Some of these songs are genuinely catchy, with strong beats and a better relationship between the instrumental and vocal delivery. Moving further in this direction could help him establish a more distinctive and effective sound.
Ultimately, Not of This World 2 feels like an album with potential that has not yet been fully realised. The production is consistently one of its strongest features, and there are moments where the beats, faster rap delivery and catchy hooks come together effectively. However, the vocals need more refinement, the songwriting needs greater depth, and the album would benefit from more variation between tracks.
Perhaps the biggest issue is that many of the songs feel as though they are missing an emotional centre. The album rarely feels particularly personal, and because the themes remain focused on money, drugs and other surface-level ideas, there is little for the listener to connect with beyond the production. The strongest music often gives the audience a sense of who the artist is, what they have experienced or why these songs matter to them. Not of This World 2 does not always provide that.
SCORE/Mediocre: With fewer releases and more time spent refining each element, K2 Cocky could create something considerably stronger. There is clearly potential in the production choices and in the more rap-focused moments of the album. If the vocals were polished, the lyrics developed and the subject matter made more personal and emotionally engaging, the foundation is there for a genuinely enjoyable project. Not of This World 2 is not without its highlights, but it ultimately feels like an early step towards something better rather than the finished version of what this sound could become.
