Today’s review features the new single Warrior by Kevin Paul from his 2023 EP Blues, Ballads, and Burners. The song is an instrumental track with lots of guitar soloing. This is newly remixed and remastered by legendary producer Stuart Epps. Mr. Epps reached out to Mr. Paul saying “Wow, yes that lead guitar is superb. Is that you? I’ve worked with a few great guitarists. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Albert Lee. Would love to remix this to get it huge.” That’s really high praise.
Kevin Paul is a blues-rock artist from Chicago, IL, USA. He performs at premier venues and festivals in the US Midwest. Paul cut his teeth on the legendary Chitlin’ Circuit, learning his blues and funk chops from the masters of blues, R&B, and blues-rock.
So let’s have a listen here…
The tone on the lead guitar is top-notch. As a guitarist, it was really fun to listen to this track. The lead guitar playing is excellent. I like the mixing and production on the track – the lead guitar soars over the constantly moving instrumental bed of the track. At the end of the song, you hear an organ/keyboard coming in – I would have liked to hear more of that in the mix.
The song creates a nice uplifting spiritual emotion. I like how the lead guitarist pauses and creates natural breaks in his playing to let the emotions pause, and then builds higher and higher. Truly outstanding.
SCORE/Outstanding: From the intro to the conclusion, this song builds emotion through the weapon of a lead guitar on fire. The mix and production on this track is excellent. The tone of the lead guitar is truly top-notch, as is the playing by everybody involved in this remix. This song, in its current form, is truly outstanding. Much love, Beth
