L O V E I T V I O L E T Featuring Johnny Sanders QUIET FIGHT OF THE CENTURY (Single Review)

QUIET FIGHT OF THE CENTURY is the new bluesy single by LOVEITVIOLET featuring Johnny Sanders

The song has assured singing and instrumentation. This music is made for big speakers; it’s fit for ‘big’ listening.

The instrumentation has a steely sound, thanks to what appears to be drumming from hi-hats. This drumming is joined by a steady kick. The bluesy, melodic, and perhaps mournful guitar is the standout instrument for me.

But it’s not only the instrumentation that’s impressive. The vocalisation is also on point. It’s expressive and dynamic. The singer here is a man with what the artist describes as a gruff voice. I think it’s fair to say a song with bluesy instrumentation and gruff vocals makes for some good listening.

To the lyrics now: they look profound, and they probably are. But the downside is that they require the listener to dig deeper for meaning. Be that as it may, we meet our narrator telling us about a man ‘proclaiming all complaints’, the man having ‘Tickets brought aboard this Fight Of the Century from me’.

SCORE/Excellent: This is an excellent song instrumentally and vocally. One is torn as to which is the better of the two: the instrumentation or the singing? The good thing is that both parts are top class.

However, my issue is the lyrics. They come across as if written by an artist whose belief is that the listener will be familiar with the song’s story or world.

Of course, crying that the lyrics are beyond the easy understanding of the reviewer may be anti-intellectualism or laziness, but I see no reason why a song should make you think harder than necessary.
