Featuring Johnny Sanders, the band LOVEITVIOLET has a new single: ‘THE DIRTY MYSTERY OF LOVE’. The song starts with understated drums. Then the saxophone kicks in, giving the song a jazzy, if not bluesy, sound. A couple of phrases play until they give way to the vocals – female vocals.
The song’s lyrics go from ‘blown off mustang doors racing for trophy girls’ to detective books and the dark web, but I think of it as a song that’s in search of the mystery of love. This search, however, is informed by the lyrical persona’s mentality that it’s a futile exercise, to say nothing about the song’s title also giving clues.
There’s something cynical about the song. Ironically, though, the lyrical persona accepts that this mystery of love is everywhere: you get it in public and private places. What’s more, they admit that ignorance is bliss, accepting the futility of the search.
Although the song starts with the saxophone, the instrument returns at some point. Whatever one thinks of the song’s instrumentation or lyrics, the vocals also stand out. The vocalist has a beautiful voice. She’s able to make her voice soar. Her delivery evokes the blues

SCORE/Excellent: This is a single by lyrically invested musicians. However, one could criticize the lyrics for their lack of focus. I love the understated drums at the beginning as well as the saxophone. As someone who loves the saxophone, I wish it could have been featured more. Ultimately, I think one has to remember that this is a song in search of the mystery of love. The search might not yield much, but we do learn something about it.
