Lieber Panos – Love’s Crime (Single Review)

Today’s review features the new single “Love’s Crime” by Lieber Panos.

Lieber Panos is the vocalist on this new jazz ballad. Lyrics were written by Karina Ruby. Stefanos Kozanis plays piano. Jimmy Bikos plays double-bass on the song. And, Jykä Ahola plays trumpet. Recording, mixing, and mastering were provided by George Priniotakis.

This song “blends the intimacy of the Great American Songbook and Broadway tradition with a contemporary jazz sensibility, creating a timeless yet fresh sound. Its story draws subtle parallels with the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, based on an idea by Ólia Maria Dakogianni, giving the song a poetic depth that resonates beyond a love song.”

So let’s have a listen …

The song begins with a piano flourish. This is definitely jazz and Lieber Panos has a really nice jazz voice. Reminds me of the classic jazz songwriting from the 1930s or 1940s. Nice musical uplift around the 1 minute mark. Lieber is quite the jazz crooner. The trumpet enters just after the 2 minute mark, providing a jazzy lift over the piano. Then the song falls back into the slower verse chord pattern. The vocals slow to close out the song.

The musical production and performances are outstanding. This is a very solid jazz piece that should get a lot of radio airplay on jazz stations.

SCORE/Outstanding: Lieber Panos delivers an epic jazz ballad as his contribution to the modern jazz zeitgeist. Excellent performances by his band, coupled with outstanding production. This is the kind of song you love to hear on a dreary rainy night while sipping on some brandy. I think this song will do well on jazz radio. Much love, Beth
