Paws On Ears - Hot Spoon Cold Mango [Album Review]
Paws On Ears - Hot Spoon Cold Mango [Album Review]

I harbour a deep and abiding affection for neo-classical/ambient music, a genre that exclusively commanded my auditory landscape throughout my formative teenage years. “Port Blue,” Adam Young’s often-overlooked instrumental side project from Owl City, stood as an unwavering pillar in my musical collection.

The resonant allure of “Hot Spoon, Cold Mango” consistently transports me back to that bygone era, encapsulating the essence of my musical journey. “Paws On Ears” stands as a testament to the sheer brilliance of Stephen Meeker, echoing his musical prowess across the entirety of the record.

Further enhancing the enchantment of this remarkable album is the astounding synthesis of craftsmanship that delicately weaves through each track. The meticulous attention to sonic detail is palpable, crafting a captivating auditory experience. Notably, the synthesis deployed in “A Beckoning Plea Call for Bears” is a tour de force, displaying a masterful blend of intricate layers and textures.

The synthesis techniques interwoven throughout the entire album contribute significantly to its atmospheric richness, allowing each note to resonate with profound depth. The seamless integration of diverse pads and synths attests to Stephen’s adept use of sound design, elevating the overall listening experience to a transcendent level. It is this exceptional synthesis of artistry that introduces another layer of enchantment to an already captivating musical journey.

Among the stellar array of 18 tracks on the record, my personal favourite is “Walk To Find Trees.” Set in a 6/8 time signature, its charm is carried by uniquely quirky yet intriguing drum samples, adding an extra dimension to the auditory adventure.
