The Last Trade single cover

Planets 4th single, ‘The Last Trade’ is an incredibly well balanced and gritty rock track. Released on the 26th September 2025, and lasting just under 4 minutes, ‘The Last Trade’ stands as an important song for the duo. (Vocalist Charlotte King and Guitarist Hector Castro) In the caption of their Instagram post (@Planets.band) promoting the song, they write that the song “turns to the world of abuse and the eternal grasp it has over victims. It’s a deep one from us, but it’s really inspired by those who don’t become who they fear most.”

The track eases in with a gentle introduction, layering soft harmonies that feel almost fragile against the backdrop of the instruments. The opening draws you closer, not with force or volume, but with intimacy. King’s delivery, laced with purpose, sets the mood with a warmth that feels personal and inviting. There is a confidence here that states that the song is not one that hurries, but one that is intricately beathing a message to its listeners.

As the band leans into the stride of the song, the energy builds with a steady assurance, guided by a riff that loops through 4 circuits before handing the stage to Castro and his breathtaking guitar solo at 2:17. The solo doesn’t feel showy, or too much, but rather a perfectly earned climax, bursting through the fabric of the track. It is sharp and fluid all at once, with just enough grunge to remind you that this is a rock song, and not solely an important message.

SCORE/Excellent: The vocals remain a highlight throughout, King carrying echoes of Hayley Williams in her expressive range and natural edge. There’s a dynamic push and pull in the way the singer balances the strength of her voice with the vulnerability of the lyrics, hitting emotional peaks without ever losing control. This, compared with the bands pacing and the well-timed solo, results in a song that feels simultaneously polished and raw. Carefully structured yet beating with a life of spontaneity. ‘The Last Trade’ is a strong piece of work which compliments the bands discography.
