Rage Unfold – Omen (Single Review)

Today’s review features Rage Unfold’s new single “Omen.”

Rage Unfold is a “virtual” band. They span 3 countries – Bulgaria, Germany and Australia. Guitarist Bozhidar Popov (Bulgaria) is inspired by Metallica, Iron Maiden, Manowar and Dio. Lyricist Marie-Louise Anastas (Australia) studies bands such as Led Zeppelin, Fontaines D.C. and Joy Division for inspiration. And, vocalist Siggi Schuessler (Germany). Bozhidar also plays bass, drums, composition, and production, and handles the mixing and production of all tracks.

Rage Unfold is an exciting act that’s completely thrown out the rule book of modern metal to deliver an original sound that’s cinematic and powerful.

Formed in 2022, Rage Unfold has produced 7 songs. This collective effort has led to them gaining popularity on YouTube, with 1.2 million views acquired from May 2022 to September 2024. The band says we can expect melting guitar solos and epic soundscapes, introspective lyrics, and soaring vocals that shake your caged emotions into uncharted territories.

So let’s have a listen …

I like my metal molten, and this track delivers. Starts with an interesting guitar riff. Then melds into a punchy rhythm full of chugging. The vocalist reminds me of Serj from System of a Down. The guitar solos are epic and lightning fast. The song takes a strange turn at 2:10, completely dropping out, focusing only on the vocals and a keyboard.

Eventually, the full band drops back in delivering more molten metal goodness until the song ends. I like how the vocalist soars on top of the mix. The guitar playing is something else – really well done, and the production is top-notch.
