“Die Hard” by Lampros Dimou opens with a moody, slow pace that quickly sets a deep and atmospheric tone. From the very start, a variety of instruments come into play, layered in a way that suggests an experimental approach to sound. A high-pitched hum lingers in the background, adding an eerie quality that could fit neatly into a game soundtrack, something along the lines of Undertale comes to mind. There’s even a hint of mischief in its melody, as if the track is teasing the listener.
Despite its intriguing start, “Die Hard” struggles to develop beyond its initial idea. The song is very short and repetitive, giving the impression that it might work better as part of a larger selection or within a themed collection rather than as a standalone single. The drum track provides a clear and steady beat, but it doesn’t evolve much, and overall, the composition feels basic. It’s the kind of rhythm you could easily recreate in GarageBand without much effort.
That said, while the songwriting itself is underwhelming, the production is solid. The mix is clean, and the audio levels are balanced, showing that care was taken in the technical side of the piece. Unfortunately, strong production can’t fully make up for the lack of musical depth.
However, I can see that there is musical talent here as the instruments are played well and come together coherently, but the piece could’ve been more evolved into a larger framework.
SCORE / Mediocre – In the end, “Die Hard” sounds polished but uninspired, a technically competent track that misses the mark creatively.
