Swedish artist ‘Tiger Lou’ is back after a long break, almost seven years since his last album ‘The Wound Dresser.’ ‘Tiger Lou’ is basically one guy, Rasmus Kellerman, who writes the songs, sings, and plays most of the instruments on his albums. But when he plays live, he’s got a band with him.
His first album, ‘Is My Head Still On?’, really got me. It had this incredible mix of playful and quite sad indie rock, and I still go back to it now and then, even though it came out in 2004.
After that, he released some albums that were hit-or-miss for me, and I’ll admit, I wasn’t a big fan of his last one, ‘The Wound Dresser.’ So when ‘Acts’ came out, I was a bit unsure but also curious. Maybe because I didn’t have super high expectations, the album surprised me in a good way. Some singles didn’t immediately blow me away, but they were still good.
‘Acts’ has much of what I like about ‘Tiger Lou.’ It’s mostly sad, with catchy melodies that stick in your head without being too predictable. The drum parts and beats are interesting and solid, and the horn sections add a warm, sad feeling.
The more I listen to ‘Acts,’ the more I like it. It’s a bit mysterious and distant compared to his last album, but it’s also like a magnet that pulls you in. It’s easy to get into, but there are little details you pick up after a few listens.
Rasmus Kellerman’s voice has changed a bit, and it’s got more power now. His unique voice is one of his strengths. The album balances with heavier guitar stuff and softer parts with piano, horns, and ambient background sounds.
If you’re into indie rock with a bit of shoegaze, post-rock, and alternative pop, you should listen to’ Acts’!
