TRi5e – Flash Flash (Single Review)

The new single by Dallas outfit TRI5E is a no-holds-barred rousing hip-hop bop that is sure to become one of the first go-to tracks of 2024.

Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, TRI5E is a labour of love from two friends united by the hard-hitting beats and colourful cultures of the music scene of their youth. After the release of 2023’s fiery E.P ‘Alter Ego’, the group has by no means slowed down the pace of producing instantly classic trap bangers.

As if to prove this point, TRI5E take no prisoners in their new song ‘Flash Flash’, which also appears on whirlwind E.P ‘TRI5E vol.1’, and take pride in their addictively aggressive rapping style and head-bopping beats. In short, it’s certainly a song that does not disappoint.

After only the first few seconds of ‘Flash Flash’, listeners are immediately made aware that they are in for a raging time. Opening with a brutally thumping bass beat and ear-worm synthesisers, the track wastes absolutely no time with mellow introductions or tentative beginnings, instead throwing the audience headfirst into the midst of a musical firestorm that thrills in its unadulterated power.

Once TRI5E adds their explosive rapping into the mix, it seems as though ‘Flash Flash’ has already reached peak intensity even only seconds into the track. It is undeniably magnetising to listen to this welcome trap influence throughout the song, which helps to elevate it in terms of generating unbridled amounts of energy and inspiring immediate intrigue in the track.

Any listener will agree upon the fact that the rapping throughout the song is nothing short of exceptional in both quality and delivery. Not only do the gritty rasp of the vocals and powerful adlibs pair perfectly with the song’s strong backing track, but the flow is executed with break-neck speed and a breathtaking sense of ease that is prevalent from beginning to end.

While this vocal performance by TRI5E will help them to stand out from the rest of the hip-hop crowd, it will also prove to be one of many contributing factors to determine their success and future popularity with fans both familiar with the music of the South and those introduced to the scene for the first time.

The hip-hop powerhouse continues their savage rampage through their feverish no-nonsense lyrics. The artist unapologetically lets everyone know what they are all about; the standout line “I don’t argue with nobody sit the f**k down” effectively encompasses the infectious take-it-or-leave-it attitude that ‘Flash Flash’ exudes in the most effortlessly satisfying manner.

Aside from the vocals, the track is never allowed to become one-note. As TRI5E’s fast-paced vocals bounce carelessly atop a bass-booming instrumental, the well-placed addition of an atmospheric string accompaniment is integrated expertly into the mix, adding yet another level of captivation to this already hot and heavy track.

Even after the impassioned vocals give way to the beat towards the end of the song, this is not at all detrimental to the unparalleled hype that ‘Flash Flash’ can supply its listeners in spades. Right from its starting beat to its last, this gem of a track has no trouble commanding attention from its audience, who upon first listen will unquestionably be lost in the beat from the word ‘go’.

Apart from TRI5E’s punchy dynamism, the talents of multi-award-winning producer and sound engineer Nagaris King, who previously worked with industry giants such as Kanye and French Montana, are overflowing on this track; the smooth production and mixing of the song adding significantly to ‘Flash Flash’s overall high quality of execution.

Score/Excellent: If this is what the South side sounds like, then boy is it good. TRI5E’s sound is as demanding, unapologetic, and inspired as it is high quality.
